Digital Citizenship Kit

Thinking critically and ethically about digital media use

Common Sense Media created a Digital Citizenship Kit with five project-based multimedia activity modules for informal learning settings and piloted the kit as a one-week Digital Literacy & Citizenship Workshop with WNYC Radio Rookies and McBurney YMCA Y Scholars.

Youth examined how to use digital media responsibly, including Internet safety, online reputations and cyberbullying. Each group produced a multimedia piece for peers and educators to explain different topics related to digital citizenship. For example, one group conducted street interviews about the subject of over-sharing while another examined how your online behavior impacts people’s perception of you.

This project was funded by the Hive Digital Media Learning Fund in The New York Community Trust in 2012.
