Happy New Year! We are looking towards 2017 and the collective learning opportunities, discussions, and community building in the coming year’s Hive Network Meetups. Our first meetup of the year will be a conversation and workshop on Digital Security and Surveillance. This meetup is meant to bring a critical lens on what we can do to protect our data, but more importantly how we can empower the youth communities and families we work with to do the same.
We will be joined by educators and data activists from Research Action Design (RAD), who will discuss their work supporting communities using digital strategies, collaboratively designed tech and media to build the power of grassroots social movements. In this meetup, RAD will lead a skills building workshop on understanding what happens to our digital traces when we surf the web and what we can do to secure our information from getting into the wrong hands. We will also have a discussion on how to support the communities we work with to protect themselves from surveillance.
This meetup will take place at the Mozilla Office DUMBO on January 19th from 9:30a-12:00 pm. Breakfast will be served. Because this will be a more hands-on workshop, we will need to cap attendance at 25 participants to accommodate capacity. Please RSVP by January 17th if you’re interested in attending.
